Gema (Gikuyu,Embu and Meru) and Kamatusa (Kalenjin,Maasai,Turkana and Samburu) outfits have raised eyebrows in the slums of Mukuru.
According to the Mukuru slum residents, the Gema and Kamatusa outfits are ethically driven individuals whose single objective is to retain power with the attendant goal of profiteering from public resources.
“If my father is a Luhya and my mother a Kikuyu what tribe am I?”
Those are some of the questions I encountered while trying to dig deeper on how the Mukuru community felt about the tribal alliances.
Mukuru slums have an estimated population of 500,000 people.
These are people of different cultures, religions, sex.beliefs, political affiliations, tribe and ethnic backgrounds brought together by the spirit of unity, peace and love to improve their living standards a simple task that the politicians’ in-sighting tribal politics have failed to deliver.
Here in the slums of Mukuru residents interact freely and help each other not as kikuyus, kambas, luos, luhyas, kurias e.t.c but as Mukuru community.
The perception of religious leader as a
paragon of unity has taken a new direction especially here in the slums of Mukuru.
Instead of gathering the Lord’s flock together especially in these trying moments which Kenya is facing as a Nation, they are the ones on the forefront dividing Kenyans according to tribal and ethnic backgrounds.
The fact that the leader of the Gema is a former clergy Lawi Imathiu speaks volumes even to the most illiterate of Kenyans.
Even the Kamatusa meeting was hosted by these noble men of the cloak.
It is enough proof that the religious leaders in this beloved country cannot take care of the Lord’s flock when they sit at the slaughter house.

Many residents in Mukuru have lost faith, respect and above all trust in these noble men of the cloak entrust by the Mighty Lord the task of bringing together all of his children irrespective of tribe, religion, belief or even political affiliations.
Mukuru residents have cried out loud and called upon Dkt. Mzalendo Kibunja who is the chairman of the National cohesion and integration commission and Minister for justice and constitutional affairs Eugene Wamalwa to act fast and apprehend these people who are preaching tribalism before this madness spreads like wild fire.
What transpired during the post election violence took a great toll on these slum dwellers and has since been a bitter pill to swallow hence all they want is peace throughout their lives. They want peace to prevail amongst them and throughout the entire Nation.
That is their humble request to the politicians who care about only themselves but will their pleas be heard or will they fall on deaf ears? That will only be proven with time.
Well they say once bitten twice shy and these Mukuru residents are surely shy.
Good news here! Mukuru people are standing up against this tribal kings!
