See what caused mp Jaguar to be rushed to hospital

Starehe member of parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar left his constituents and fans a worried lot after sharing a short video on his Instagram platform undergoing a CT Scan with a worrying caption “Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired,".

Mukuru news has since established what is ailing the youthful parliamentarian.

It’s worth remembering that in July 2018, Jaguar was on the forefront deep in the streets of Nairobi championing for a conducive working environment for Muthurwa and wakulima market traders when the Nairobi County city askaris together with the National police teargassed the legislator while leading a peaceful demonstration fracturing his right leg.

A few months later things returned to normalcy but Jaguar was once again on the limelight after allegations of xenophobic utterances while trying to fight for the rights of traders and hawkers in Gikomba market. What followed was a series of action movies straight from a Hollywood script and again the kigeugeu hitmaker was arrested and in the process injuring the same leg.

Since then, the vocal parliamentarian has been in and out of hospital due to the recurring leg injury.

The helter skelter seems to have caught up with Hon Njagua as just recently while presiding over a graduation ceremony of more than 250 youths who had undergone training on various causes fully sponsored by Starehe NG-CDF, the Honorable member could be seen having difficulties walking.

It was during the ceremony that all hell broke lose and he was rushed to the M.P SHAH Hospital where an M.R.I scan was taken.

He was later discharged from the hospital and is now recuperating at his home but is eager to come back and continue serving his constituents and Kenyans at large.

Well quick recovery sir the streets are already missing you.

check out the video of Hon. Jaguar undergoing the M.R.I scan at the M.P SHAH Hospital.

Jaguar asks the Deputy President to forgive his “Father”

During a church service at PECEA Nairobi west, Starehe lawmaker Hon Charles Njagua kanyi took it upon himself to apologize to the Deputy President William Samoei Ruto on behalf of his “father” Nominated Mp Hon Maina Kamanda.

“I have seen my friend and my “father” Maina Kamanda go around throwing insults and I want to take this opportunity today to ask you the Deputy President to forgive him because a son can also ask for forgiveness on behalf of his father and since you are God-fearing I know you will forgive him.”

In a video gone viral, Jaguar retaliated that there was a bunch of “wazees who they had defeated during the last general elections but were adamant to derail their service delivery to wananchi. He asked the politicians to join hands work together for the greater good of the common mwananchi.

JAGUAR: GRASS TO GRACE

Charles Njagua Kanyi, known by his onstage moniker Jaguar, is having the time of his life. President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga are part of his circle of high-profile friends. He has them on speed dial. His bewildering array of songs has become a staple of Kenyan music. When he's not singing about betrayal and back-stabbing, the musician, known for his laid-back swagger, is crooning about love and never giving up the hope to succeed. Randomly rattle off the lyrics of any of his compelling bangers and watch those around you nod with familiarity, be it 'Nikuskize' or 'Kipepeo' or 'Kigeugeu' or 'Huu mwaka'. The prolific artist seems to be on an unstoppable roll, doling out a string of emotionally-engaging hooks that have endeared him to the millenials and the oldies alike. School-going kids love his craft.

There's always been the widely-held contention, which he has failed to address once and for all, that he's the highest paid artist in Kenya. It's a contention that appears to be credible given his flashy lifestyle; the fleet of state-of-the-art machines, the silver and gold chains that adorn his neck, Nike footwear, strategically-shredded jeans and what not!  His generosity with cash is legendary. He moves around with his pockets stuffed up with a thousand-bob notes. He is wealthy to a fault. Then there's his upset victory in the 2017 elections that demonstrated for all to see the reach of his influence and appeal. Footage of the artist in tears over what he described as being rigged out of the Jubilee nomination certificate prior to the elections went viral. His supporters went berserk, taking to the streets and vowing not to relent until he was given the nomination certificate by the ruling party. They camped outside the Jubilee headquarters until the party's machinery buckled.  The protests paid off and he was eventually given the certificate, setting the stage for the disgraceful exit of his experienced opponent Maina Kamanda from the political arena.

It was never smooth-sailing getting to this position of privilege, wealth and power, Jaguar has emphasised in virtually all the interviews he has done with the mainstream media. At just 11, he lost his mother, upending his world. Fare from Eastleigh to Kikuyu to attend primary school was hard to come by forcing him to make friends with the touts who, seeing his efforts, ferried him back and forth,  free of charge. " When people see your efforts they are willing to help. That's why the youths helped me out. They saw I really wanted to go school, " he told a mainstream television station. He would later join Senior Chief Koinange to complete his secondary education thanks to the contributions of well-wishers. It's at senior chief that his singing talent was discovered. "You have a talent in singing. Work on it, " Mr Mbugua, a teacher told him with conviction after performing in front of other students. "Shoes were a luxury then. I used to walk in a pair of slippers, " he says. All this while, after the demise of his mum, he stayed at relatives' and friends' places and would sleep on the seats because the beds were not enough.

In a deeply emotional post on Instagram, Jaguar says his sister was married at 17 years and the two stayed at Mukuru kwa Reuben, a slum in Nairobi, in a one-roomed corrugated iron shack where he slept on the floor. While there, he made his sister a solemn promise: One day he would get her out of there and take her to a better place. It was a promise he made with the conviction of a self-fulfilling prophecy. He worked as a tout then at Buruburu during which time he came to know Sonko who haboured political aspirations. When Sonko went for the Makadara seat, Jaguar says he laughed it off as a joke but then things happened. Sonko pulled off an upset victory against ODM's Reuben Ndolo.

Jaguar's sophomore single 'Furaha' came together after much hustle; having to trek a great distance to get someone with a laptop to do the editing. He parted with a thousand bob and had to go back to look for another a thousand bob. The single was not a smash. It didn't do well and Jaguar contemplated abandoning his music career. He's glad he didn't. He held out.

When "Nikuskize', a love song in which he featured 'Tina' a former 'Mother in Law' actor, his romantic interest in the song, the nation took notice. And then there was 'Nimetoka Mbali' in which he featured Tanzanian rapper AY which took the music industry by storm. His sound had evolved into something engaging. Then later came 'Kigeugeu'. 'Kigeugeu' was an earthquake in musical terms which showcased Jaguar's inimitable talent. He had arrived. Politicians fell in love with the song which talked about betrayal. Raila Odinga is on record saying it's one of his favuorites. It's a song which appears to have particular resonance for the veteran politician who has known betrayal. Every other song has been a hit. His collaboration 'One Centimetre' with Iyanya, Nigerian sensation, enjoyed massive airplay.

Jaguar says working closely with industry players and the willingness to learn has helped his career a great deal. He's always seeking advice before releasing songs.

How has he been able to remain financially stable all this while? "Investing wisely and saving as much as he can. You don't eat everything, " he said in an interview. His path has not been without controversy. There is the rumour that he trafficked in drug
s. "That's a narrative being peddled by haters, " he says. He has however confessed to taking drugs out of peer pressure and bad advice. He has long been embroiled in a beef with rapper Prezzo which came to an end after his election. The two collaborated on a song to signal the end of their feud. On his fistfight with Babu Owino, he is deeply remorseful,  saying it did not set a good example to the youth. The two have since reconciled. His tenure at NACADA boss was rocky; he nearly resigned over corruption. "I saw no need of earning a salary and getting fat without getting something done. My loyalty was to the people," he said. It's only after an assurance that his graft claims would be looked into that he stayed on.

Using is platform, the talented crooner is giving back to the community big time. With a myriad projects, he has helped youths reform and reintegrate back to the society. The fact that he once lacked and was helped by others is what informs his generosity. Waking up in the weekend hours of the morning has become part of his routine. "I wake up at four every day. I would rather sleep early than sleep late, " he says.

Love him or hate him, Jaguar stands as an inspiration to many youths who see him as a testament to what is possible to a determined soul. He seems to be juggling his many roles pretty well with the attention to detail and precision of a military operation: Family, music, politics, business, and what not. If his string of successes are anything to go by, the best is yet to come for Jaguar. To him, nothing is beyond the realm of the possible provided you go the extra mile.

JAGUAR LAUNCHES SECONDARY SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Hon. Jaguar during the launch of the secondary school scholarship drive at Kariakor social hall.

Starehe Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Njagua Kanyi has launched a secondary school scholarship drive programme that will enable over 60 bright but needy pupils who sat for the just concluded KCPE from the six wards within the constituency to join and complete their secondary school education.

Jaguar's secondary school drive scholarship beneficiaries during the launch of the programme at Kariakor social hall.

During the launch, the pupils narrated the hardships and great challenges they had to endure including rape and sexual harassment from close family and guardians to come tops in the KCPE exams.

"There is nothing more painful and devastating than having a child who has passed exams but the parents have no means of taking the child to school. This scholarship programme will go along way in ensuring that the pupils finish their education and pursue their dreams." Hon Jaguar

A guardian addressing Hon. Jaguar during the launch.

To overcome such hurdles and obstacles to perform pretty well in the KCPE exams was a proud moment for these ambitious young boys and girls and Mheshimiwa took upon himself to visit each and everyone of them at their places of residence to see their preparation before embarking on their secondary school journey.

First on the list was Titus Bahati Shitsukane an alumni of Mitumba Community primary school.

Coming from a very humble background, Bahati was born with the cancer of the eye that left his left eye completely blind but that did not deter him from scoring 343 marks in KCPE and earning a place at the prestigious Jamhuri High School. However his dreams would hit a dead end since his father Vincent Shitsukane Mangala who hails from Ikholomani Kakamega county, a cobbler by day and a guard by night was not able to buy him a pair of shoes let alone pay his school fees due to meagre wages he earns but Jaguar's programme came just in the nick of time.

During his visit to Bahati's home, Jaguar pledged to buy school uniform and any other requirements necessary to make Bahati's stay at Jamhuri comfortable.

Looking at their source of income, the promise came as a reprieve to the family and they shed tears of joy.

"God heard my prayers and sent Hon. Jaguar to my son's aid. I pray that God grants him long life and bless him on my behalf because I as a person don't have anything to give him only prayers". Mr Shitsukane

"I faced a lot of difficulties and challenges while in primary school but still I managed to score 343 marks and thank God Hon. Jaguar has come to my and my famiy's aid and bought for me uniform and other requirements. He has also paid for my school fees. Sasa ni kusoma tu." Bahati states with a broad promising smile.

Maxwell vanja contemplated suicide after scoring 355 marks at Mukuru primary school but later learned that his family could not afford to take him to his dream school the Highway secondary school.

"I overcame great odds and challenges to score 355 marks in KCPE and was envious of my friends since most of them had already reported to their respective schools. Evil thoughts came to my mind and wanted to commit suicide but God sent Jaguar and offered to pay for my school fees plus buy for me school uniform and other requirements. God bless you."

His story was highlighted by ghetto radio and Vanja promises to work hard in his studies and become a pilot.

Maxwell Vanja ready to conquer his dreams.

The area chief Mr. Muraguri while addressing the public at Mukuru Fuata Nyayo, supported Hon. Jaguar's efforts and the scholarship programme and said it will go along way in ensuring reduced crime rates since most youths would be busy with their studies and school work.

He also urged the mp to source other avenues to engulf youths who had finished their studies So as to become responsible citizens. He further commended Jaguar's efforts in ensuring that employment opportunities in industrial area went to the youths of the area thus reducing the crime rate in the area.

Like Bahati said, "sasa ni kusoma tu."

JAGUAR 1 YEAR IN OFFICE

STAREHE CONSTITUENCY

It has been one year since the people of Starehe Constituency saw change of guard and mandated the young vibrant Hon. Jaguar to represent them as their Member of Parliament in the National Assembly. It is a task that he took with a lot of interest and energy and after his victory he pledged to serve the people with zeal and zest. And serve he did.

" It has been an explorative year with lots of lessons, challenges as well as achievements.
As a leader I have engaged myself in several projects, all for the benefit of the constituents."

1. Youth Empowerment

The youth believed in me and so have I. In 2017-2018, I managed to purchase several push carts, carwash machines for several youth groups within the constituency. Through this the youths are able to carry out different business activities which earn them a living leading to reduced crime levels and development of the community and the nation at large.

As you know the youth are such a good source of labor and have extra energy that if not well utilized it can lead to vices.

In conjunction with NG-CDF I have enrolled 150 youths for driving school as well as short courses that will empower them to get future opportunities.

I have partnered with industries within my constituency to provide jobs for the youths and this provides them with income as well as engaging them thus reducing crime rates.

2. Construction of roads
Roads are good for communication and transport and they are a booster to economic growth and Development. Most roads have been impassable for quite some time. Under my administration through KeRRA we have re-carpeted Tsunami road which is a major access road to Grogon area within the CBD.

Other roads that I have overseen their construction are Race-course and Mikonge road within Pangani ward.

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has also undertaken the maintenance of the following roads Chai road (Pangani), Tom Mboya Street , Luthuli Avenue, Parkroad, Kapiti road and Khoja Round about.

Plans are also underway by KURA to upgrade more than 30 roads within the constituency some of which include New Pumwani Road in Gikomba, Busia and Changamwe roads ( Landmawe) Desai (Ngara) , Hombe road (Pangani), Plainsview and Mwangeka Roads ( Nairobi South) , Tom Mboya and Kirinyaga Road (CBD).

3. Education

An English man once said, if you want to invest for tomorrow, invest in education.

Our schools have been struggling with several challenges among them lack of desks, dilapidated classrooms, inadequate wash rooms, land grabbing and encroachment as well as insecurity.

Through NG-CDF we have furnished the following schools with desks and chairs; Pumwani Primary, Riverbank Primary, Pumwani Boys Secondary, Mukuru Primary, St. Catherine Bakhita, Highway Secondary, Muslim Primary, Moi Avenue Primary and Our Lady of Mercy Primary Schools.

Also underway, is construction of a home-science complex for Pumwani Girls Secondary School, several ablution blocks and renovation works.

Some schools have been facing insecurity issues due to lack of perimeter walls. And cases of rampant grabbing of school land leaving the schools with no room for expansion. To mitigate this, we constructed perimeter walls for Mariakani Primary School in South B ward, Riverbank Primary School in Ngara Ward and plans are underway for the construction of the same for Dr. Ribeiro Boys Secondary School.

The walls will aid in curbing the drug abuse menace by restricting access of drugs and drug peddlers to the schools.

Jaguar Youth Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with the Lotto Foundation and Posta Kenya facilitated the renovation of Ainsworth Primary school which was one of the most dilapidated schools in Starehe Constituency.

The hall was not functional but after the refurbishment, it is now in use and the school is in good shape.

Due to financial challenges, some schools have been indebted to the point of almost having their properties auctioned.

I organized for a harambee which was graced by H.E the Deputy President, William Ruto to help offset the debts that had been incurred by Dr. Ribeiro Boys, Pumwani Girls Secondary School and County Girls Secondary School.

School infrastructure would achieve very little if there are no students in those institutions.

Parents struggle to keep their kids in school considering that the poverty levels are very high and parents struggle even to put food on the table.

To ensure that children attend and stay in school, I in collaboration in with NGCDF, issued bursaries to over 4,000 students in both secondary and tertiary institutions.

Some of these students have been put on full Scholarship by NG-CDF while the Jaguar Youth Empowerment Foundation finances their upkeep in school due to their level of need.

Through the JYEF in conjuction with the Friends With The Homeless Foundation, I have facilitated the rehabilitation of several street children within my area.

Some, after rehabilitation, have been taken through training in basic craft skills through our other partners ( Mariakani Training Institute). After the training, the trainees are empowered to start up their own businesses.

4. Medical Care
NHIF is a government medical insurance cover which provides medical cover to all its members and declared dependants.

Most of my constituents have been drawn from the informal sector and they did not understand the benefits of registering as members of NHIF.

I in collaboration with the Chipkeezy Foundation organized for a sensitization program and registered over 1000 members in to the medical scheme.

Diabetes has become a major challenge in the community and many people suffer due to lack of information. Thus, I also organised for a diabetes screening day where the constituents were screened.

This will remain an annual event under my leadership.

Jaguar Youth Empowerment Foundation (JYEF) in partnership with CURE Kenya, Sport Pesa  organized for a medical camp for the people who are abled differently.

5. Empowering women
Women Enterprise Fund is a revolving fund which aims at providing accessible and affordable credit to support women start their businesses.

I held a sensitization program for women within the constituency where I urged them to make use of these funds to enable them start up or expand already existing businesses for the purpose of wealth and employment creation.

“When you empower a woman you empower a family and a whole nation.”

6. Security
The Security sector has remained un-attended over time. The administration officers reside in very dilapidated structures and they face a lot of challenges among them washrooms and congestion in their areas of residence.

The NG-CDF Starehe is constructing housing units for our administration police officers in Kariokor. The officers have been living in make shift uni-huts. This will make them have proper living conditions and thus better services.

The Chiefs offices at Hazina Location in Nairobi South ward have been constructed.

Due to challenges of congestion, the officers have had challenges of bathrooms and washrooms. The Construction of an ablution block for administration police living in Ngara will go a long way in ensuring that the officers are comfortable.

Street lighting has been quite a challenge within the constituency.

I have followed up to make sure that all the street lights that were not functional are functioning now.

This goes a long way in reducing crime activities within the affected areas and some people are also able to extend their working hours as they feel safer.

Floodlights have been installed in Muthurwa, Ngara, Riverside Bridge, along Aoko road all the way to hazina estate in south b, Bellevue stage along mombasa road and CBD areas and this has gone a long way in ensuring that the vendors extend their working hours and therefore more sales and thus better lifestyle.

Hon. Jaguar inspecting street lights at Bellevue stage along mombasa road

7. Environment
In tandem with the National Government initiative of  Penda Kenya, Panda Miti, I in conjunction with NG-CDF  ensured that trees have been planted within schools in the constituency.

Hon. Jaguar spearheading tree planting exercise in one of the schools within Starehe constituency

This program will be rolled over to schools to ensure that the City Constituency remains green and beautiful.

I have also engaged various youth groups and women groups in clean- up exercises and garbage collection which has proved to be a good source of income for them as well as ensuring that they live in a cleaner safer environment.

To ensure good working environment for our vendors, I have put up modern market shades at Ngara market and Kariokor market.

This, once complete will create an enabling environment for the traders to create wealth as well as for the buyers to feel secure when transacting.

8. Feeding Program
Knowing that most of the citizens in the informal sectors earn less than 1 dollar in a day which is hardly enough for them to sustain their daily needs, I organized for a feeding program where I together with various partners will be providing foodstuffs to my constituents in all the wards for the aged and the less fortunate.

8. Personal Interactions
I donated a generator to Danson Mwaniki who has been ailing for a while, experiencing breathing issues for a very long time and the sudden power outages interfere with his breathing system.

I have given startup capital to several youth groups as well as individuals. Several Women groups have also received cash to boost their table banking savings.

In times when fires have razed down homes and properties of my constituents, I have always come through for them and provided them with foodstuffs and beddings.

Through the JYEF, I have bought a bus which is a donation to the community to facilitate them during burials as well as community's special occasions.

9. SPORTS
NG-CDF organized a football tournament for the youth within the constituency. The tourney comprised 36 teams from the 6 wards and was won by Country bus Fc. The winners walked home with a cool 100,000ksh while the runners up and second runners up clinched 75,000ksh and 50,000ksh respectively.

Through JYEF I  have been able to support KOTHBIRO, Boxing and the recently concluded Mukuru Finest talent search.

Well, there you have it guys. Truth be told, It's been a rollercoaster year for the first time law maker who overcame great odds to clinch the capital's parliamentary seat and it hasnt been a walk  the park.

Good things seem to be on the horizon for the Starehe constituents and although the mp has done a handful, many more are waiting patiently in the que to get served. Kazi kwako mheshimiwa. Mbele iko sawa.
